Solarpark Seehausen
Germany - Sachsen Anhalt
Impact
Renewable energy
The requested grid capacity for the Seehausen solar park is around 70 MVA. It will produce around 70,000 MWh per year, enough to supply almost 23,000 households.
Sustainable farming
The agricultural plots have soil conditions of around 50 soil points. This makes it very suitable for growing crops next to and partly under the solar panels. These crops are used, for example, as animal feed.
Biodiversity
The area is mainly home to small game such as roe deer. This wildlife can move through the park undisturbed. We will develop nature on the edges of the park and natural banks along existing watercourses. We will allow local species to grow.
Local community
Plans include solar panels on the local sports hall, with residents able to invest in the park. The community will share in the revenue via the German Renewable Energy Sources Act, and taxes will be paid locally.
Sustainable farming
We are working with the Fraunhofer Institute to design an agri-solar system that is good for agriculture and good for the environment. For example, we are deliberately not installing vertical panels, a classic form of agri-solar. These are 3 metre high upright walls of panels with 6 to 9 metre wide strips of arable land in between. These black walls would be too disruptive to the landscape. We will install well-integrated solar panels that have a minimal impact on the landscape in the area and can be integrated well with existing agriculture.
