Principles
Sunvest aims to reach 2,500 MW of solar capacity by 2030.
We develop all our solar parks as standard with integrated Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to relieve grid congestion and enable optimized power delivery.
Currently, we have constructed solar parks that collectively generate over 320,000 MWh of green, renewable electricity per year. This is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of more than 100,000 households.
Each of our solar parks is designed to make a significant contribution to sustainable agricultural practices, enhance biodiversity, and support the local community.
Solutions
Electricity usage (i.e. consumption) and the generation of solar power do not always develop at the same pace.
Moreover, the electricity grid is nearing its limit due to the increasing electrification of our society.
We have developed the following solutions to respond to these needs:
1. Battery storage
Solar power cannot always be used at the moment it is generated. This is why we integrate battery storage systems into all our solar parks to store surplus power and deliver it when demand is highest. We are also making these battery units available for a grid operator so that grid voltage and frequency can be kept in balance.
2. Hydrogen
By converting solar energy through electrolysis, we create green hydrogen. This allows us to store electricity for extended periods. Green hydrogen can be utilised in industrial processes such as steel production or used to power trucks and other transport vehicles.
3. Direct electrification
The most effective way to relieve the strain on the power grid is by supplying our electricity to companies directly through a dedicated power line. Any surplus electricity is then fed back into the grid via a small-scale connection.
4. Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (cPPAs)
Sunvest increasingly sells its electricity directly to major corporate buyers of electricity. Ten-year cPPAs are used so that companies can secure our green energy output at a competitive price. For these companies, it’s an opportunity to make their power consumption greener without the risk of unexpected financial surprises.
5. Complementing Solar with wind power
Sunvest’s solar parks and wind turbines complement each other effectively. Strong winds are typically accompanied by less sunlight, while gentler winds often coincide with more sunlight. Solar and wind energy also integrate well in terms of the landscape required for their generation. Therefore, it makes sense to locate these two generation methods close to each other and, where possible, use the same cables to connect to the grid.
