Contracting and Financing

Organising the contracting and financing

During this phase, Sunvest ensures that the plan is funded and contracts are concluded.

Sunvest has all the knowledge for this and a large network, which we see as a prerequisite for realising a project. In fact, we were created by the cooperation between a financial advisor and a construction company, both active in the world of energy transition.

During this phase, we organise two things: signing a contract with a buyer of the power and organising the financing.

Finding a buyer for the solar power produced

To conclude a contract with a buyer of the power, we mainly look at large consumers who want to buy all the power from a solar farm for a long period of time.

The agreements with a buyer are laid down via a so-called Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA). There is a great need for this as companies are keen to become more sustainable. Here, they also look at green power from a solar installation.

Our CPPA -manager brings parties together and uses a CPPA to arrange that the power from a solar park to be built is sold for a longer period to a regular customer.

Financing the plan

The second element we will take care of during this phase is the financing of the plan.

The largest investment items are the construction of the park, the laying of the cable, the battery or hydrogen plant, the longitudinal integration and possibly the purchase of the land. We finance these partly with a bank loan (60% to 80% of the investment) and partly with equity (20% to 40%).

The bank loan is provided by a respected European bank. They check all the documentation surrounding the plan, do some of their own research, and grant a loan on that basis. The equity is raised by the parent companies, often money earned from other solar parks or in the energy transition. Part of the money is also regularly raised locally, through crowd funding.

Financial close

This phase also involves establishing the right of superficies with the landowners, entering into a contract for the construction of the solar park and contracts for things like agricultural management and green maintenance, often with the farmer himself.

This phase ends with Financial Close. Power sales and financing for the solar farm have been arranged. Right-of-way contracts with the landowners have been signed.
